Tradition

$150.00
Sold Out

I didn't want a real Christmas tree.

I could do without the extra chore of cleaning pine needles and watering this time of year.

But it was our first Christmas together. And you insisted.

So I opened doors and cleared pathways while you carried the tree inside.

I sipped tea and baked treats while you strung lights and fiddled with its position.

In one day, our space was transformed.

Winter was here.

And the tree smelled amazing.

After Christmas, you surprised me by cutting wood rounds from our tree trunk.

So I sealed them with varnish to create coasters.

As I write this, my coffee is sitting on a stump from 2012.

Evidence of every winter spent together with you.

All of these years later, your tree tradition has become our tree tradition.

And now, it's my favorite.

I'm so glad that you insisted we get that real tree.

Watercolor and Soft Pastel, 8”x 8”, framed and ready to hang.

Am I still invited if it looks like I have acne?
Remnants of the shingles scar on the left side of my check.
I hear it might fade in time.

Am I still invited even though I might wear a head scarf?
To hide the hair fall that continues to shed.

Am I still invited if it looks like I have acne? Remnants of the shingles scar on the left side of my check. I hear it might fade in time. Am I still invited even though I might wear a head scarf? To hide the hair fall that continues to shed. I hear it's from malnutrition but it will grow back. Am I invited even though I'm bringing my own food? From the elimination diet that started as gross but turned out to be delicious. I hear it will start to work soon. Am I invited even though I have to leave early? To prioritize sleep and take my supplements on time. Fingers crossed that tonight is a better one. Am I still invited if I quietly decline with a little white lie? So I don't have to explain any of the real reasons. Of why maybe I shouldn't have been invited at all.
