Tiny Dancer

$150.00
Sold Out

When I was little, I took dance lessons at our local studio.

My mom would stay and watch our class, cheering me on from the glass window separating the dance floor from the waiting area.

I was a ham, waving at her every chance I got.

When my class was over, I used to watch the "big girls" come in.

They moved and swayed their bodies to fun pop songs and wore super cool dance outfits.

I just couldn't wait until I could do that, too.

They were so grown up. They had it all together.

They could drive themselves to class and stay out later than me.

But then I realized no one was in the waiting room when it was time for the big girls to practice.

No one was watching them dance or cheering them on from the sides.

Maybe I could stay tiny just a little bit longer…because I had a big job to do.

I had to perform for my mama.

Soft Pastel, 8” x 8”, framed and ready to hang.

Am I still invited if it looks like I have acne?
Remnants of the shingles scar on the left side of my check.
I hear it might fade in time.

Am I still invited even though I might wear a head scarf?
To hide the hair fall that continues to shed.

Am I still invited if it looks like I have acne? Remnants of the shingles scar on the left side of my check. I hear it might fade in time. Am I still invited even though I might wear a head scarf? To hide the hair fall that continues to shed. I hear it's from malnutrition but it will grow back. Am I invited even though I'm bringing my own food? From the elimination diet that started as gross but turned out to be delicious. I hear it will start to work soon. Am I invited even though I have to leave early? To prioritize sleep and take my supplements on time. Fingers crossed that tonight is a better one. Am I still invited if I quietly decline with a little white lie? So I don't have to explain any of the real reasons. Of why maybe I shouldn't have been invited at all.
