June marked a big anniversary for us, the kind people often celebrate with an extravagant trip or party.

But our calendar was packed, and suddenly there was no carefully made plan.

So we dressed up, walked downtown for dinner, and talked about our love, where we’d been, and the life we’re still trying to carve out.

There were no bags to pack, no dog care to arrange, and nowhere else we needed to be.

It felt spontaneous, gentle, and almost suspiciously easy.

I’m not used to important things feeling that way.
