Flower Study 9

When I visited the Red Rocks in Sedona.

They changed every hour of the day.

The color shifted.

The texture and shadows danced through the stone.

The morning mist was beautiful.

But my favorite was dusk.

Because right after the sun slipped behind the highest rock.

A soft pink, peach, red, and gold moved across the surface like it was coming from within.

Justin said that effect is called alpenglow.

The light you see on mountains just after sunset.

And now it’s my favorite color palette.

An original watercolor inspired by the colors and shapes of spring.

Painted by hand on paper, this piece is part of an ongoing study of seasonal flowers and the quiet beauty they bring for a short time each year.

This painting is 6”x 6” and comes in a white mat 8”x 8”.
