Along The Road

We were driving a long distance when I saw a cluster of flowers growing along the side of the road.

Far from the comfort of a garden, with no protection from traffic or whatever might come barreling past.

These flowers had the audacity to bloom anyway, despite their strange and precarious location.

The instinct to exist.

To make the best of it.

And I’m not sure what moves me more.

That they’re likely doomed to a turbulent and short life.

Or that, simply by existing where anyone can see them, they make even the bleakest stretch of road shine a little brighter.
