I’m a full time art teacher. And a full time artist. Sometimes those roles split my time. Sometimes they compete. But most of the time they just overlap. When my students are working, I work too. At first it bothered me to let them see me running my art business. Painting. Editing copy. Applying for shows. But now they expect it. They encourage me and compliment me. Sometimes they visit my shows. And I think it helps them trust my teaching more. Which is useful because high schoolers are a tough crowd. Spring is a time for balancing two art show seasons, theirs and mine. Painting when I can between lectures, demos, and tending the studio. As long as I don’t mind a few hundred interruptions. And a fire drill every now and then. ✨ A GREAT way to spend a spring day: art by the lake. Plot twist: the weather won 🌧 The Media Spring Arts Show has been postponed due to wind and rain, and moved to next Sunday, 4/26. I have a special family event on the rescheduled date, so I won’t make it, but I hope the show is full of sunshine, art, and lots of visitors! In the meantime, I’ll be over here finishing a commission and getting my paintings in line for the next show on the calendar. I’ll keep the latest show updates posted at emilyknabbart.com.
