How It Started

I’m not sure if you know this.

But my art business started with custom pet portraits.

Chalk pastel on bristol paper.

One sweet dog and cat face after another.

At first, I shipped them rolled in tubes.

Then with each new sale, I started framing them.

Not long after, I found my voice in painting.

I painted all kinds of subjects.

But kept coming back to anatomy.

Then came the hands.

Then came the flowers.

I get painting ideas all the time.

Sometimes I have to pull my car over to write one down.

Or get up in the middle of post yoga Savasana to record it on my phone.

I’m always a little afraid the idea will disappear if I wait.

Because when a new painting starts forming.

It can feel vivid before I’ve even touched the paper.

Sometimes I hear imagined music in my head, the way a film score carries emotion without saying a word.

That’s usually how I know an idea is worth following.

It stays with me until I make it real.
