Making Room

My sister and brother-in-law moved into a new house with their 7 month old.

They're unpacking and renovating and making it their own.

Doing the hard work of deciding things.

What to donate. What to eliminate.

What to store for later and what to use right now.

It got me thinking about my own spaces.

The rooms and hallways and studio I live my life in every day.

It's probably time I take a look around and notice what I no longer use, need, or benefit from.

Since I'm a maker of things.

I'm always bringing something new into the world, which makes it even more important to notice what has already fulfilled its purpose.

I want to keep what serves me.

What inspires me.

What reminds me of who I am.

But I want to remove what distracts me, weighs on me, or belongs to a version of my life I've outgrown.

There's a kind of freedom that comes from making those choices.

Because our surroundings are quietly asking us to look, think, and feel all day long.

Every so often, I want to make sure mine are pointing me toward the life I'm building.

Instead of holding me inside one I've already outgrown.

I don't think letting go is really about having less.

I think it's about making room for something new to catch my eye, light me up, and earn its place in the life I'm making now.
