Chocolate Smoothie

I’m not going to lie.

I really like routine.

It grounds me.

It's when my thoughts feel safe to flutter and grow and get a little wild.

At night, I like to make a smoothie.

Chocolatey. Comforting.

Full of little gems like cacao, avocado, yogurt, berries, and adaptogens.

I’ll light a candle and read while I sip it.

But when art show season rolls in.

My routine gets disrupted.

And I’m a little embarrassed to admit it can unsettle me.

Not because I might travel.

Not because I might meet new people.

But because I have to step away from predictability.

My chocolate smoothie won’t get made.

And I’ll miss it.

Sometimes I’ll tell myself I don’t have to go to the show.

My artwork will shine whether I’m in attendance or not.

But stepping outside comfort is one of my goals.

A steady practice of remembering there’s a big, bold, interesting world out there.

I want to see some of it before I’m gone.

And besides, that chocolate smoothie will taste even better after a night off.
