December 20 - Hibiscus

There’s more I want to do.

And even more I want to grow into.

I want to sweat while tending a garden that’s a little too big.

Wipe pollen off a stone porch and call it home.

Be interrupted by ten dogs who all need something at once.

I want to carry firewood out back.

Roast blistered tomatoes over an open flame.

Layer them with burrata and peaches.

And call it a snack.

I want sore legs from hiking Mount Rainier.

To stretch on the floor while the sun goes down.

I want to live in a tiny flat in Italy long enough to have a routine.

Even if it doesn’t have air conditioning or a proper washer.

I want to stumble into a cozy café where no one can find me.

And waste the day dreaming up more things I might want.

So that when I’m painting in the studio, they all feel possible.

🌿 Hibiscus blooms are bold and brief.

Dried tea leaves relax the system and soften the heart.

It reminds me that longing isn't a void.

It’s proof I’m still alive.
